Etna New Hampshire was originally called Mill Village. Etna is actually a small village located with the town of Hanover. Etna is located in southwestern Grafton county about 3 miles from downtown Hanover and Dartmouth College. The Mink Brook runs through the center of Etna and once was used to power local mills. Etna, NH has a separate ZIP code from the rest of Hanover and maintains its own fire station, church and library. Etna is a small, rural village, the Etna General Store serves as the only local shopping venue.
The Appalachian Trail crosses just north of Etna center on Route 120 as it heads east to Moose Mountain. Famous Etna, NH residents include; Jodi Piccoult who wrote “My Sister’s Keeper, The Pact, Nineteen Minutes, and others. The largest Etna NH event of the year takes place every summer when the village hosts the annual “Old Timer’s Fair on the Hanover Center Green on Route 120.
