Tilton was originally known as Sanbornton Bridge and Bridge Village. It was incorporated as Tilton, in honor of Nathaniel Tilton, whose grandson Charles was a prominent citizen of the town. Nathaniel Tilton established an iron foundry and the area’s first hotel called the Dexter House.

Tilton is home to several historic statues. Nathaniel Tilton’s Grandson Charles donated many of the statues to the town, including the famous Tilton Arch. Charles Tilton’s former estate is now part of the Tilton School.

Tilton NHTilton includes the village of Lochmere. Tilton has become a popular NH shopping destination – the Tilton Outlets (a Tanger Outlet Shopping Center) is located here.
