New Hampshire Father’s Day
Father’s Day is the celebration of fatherhood. The holiday began in the early 20th century. A woman named Sonora Smart Dodd, who was raised solely by her father, thought that there should be a day for dads to complement Mother’s Day. She celebrated the first Father’s Day on June 19, 1910. By 1926 Congress formally recognized the holiday. Then in 1972, President Richard Nixon established a National Observance of the holiday for the third Saturday in June.
