Wentworth, New Hampshire was first chartered in 1766. Wentworth was originally reserved for the private use of Governor Benning Wentworth. When John Wentworth succeeded his uncle as governor, one of his first acts was to grant the tract to a group of settlers, naming it Wentworth in his uncle’s honor. Most of the new colonists came from Salisbury, Massachusetts.
Wentworth is in the Baker River Valley near Carr Mountain.
