Welcome to historic Boscawen, NH. Boscawen was named for English admiral, Edward Boscawen, who fought under General Amherst in the conquest of Canada. One of the first log forts was located in Boscawen. The Contoocook Fort on the Merrimack River, built in 1739, was used for protection against the Indians.
Boscawen includes the village of Gerrish and is home to the State Veterans Cemetery and the Hannah Duston Memorial Site. The statue of Hannah Duston is the first publicly funded Memorial in New Hampshire. The memorial commemorates the courage of Hannah Duston, who was captured in 1697 during the French and Indian War. The memorial was erected in 1874 and is located at 298, US Rt. 4 in Boscawen. Early Boscawen industries included a woolen factory, a cotton mill, chair and match manufacturers, sawmills, and gristmills. Today Boscawen is the home Ledge Top Maple products, producers of delicious Made in NH Maple Syrup.
