Travelling north on Route 302 from Woodsville you will come upon The Brick Store, an historic country store located in the center of the village of Bath, NH. The Brick Store is purportedly the oldest continuously operating general store in the United States. Located just a stone’s throw from the Ammonoosuc River this center-chimney structure dates back to 1790. The building appears in good structural condition, considering it’s more than 200 years old, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Once inside the store, you’ll find an assortment of New Hampshire gift items, cheeses, local products, essentials, and oddities. The Brick Store served as the local Post Office until 1942, some of the original post office boxes are still there. The Bath Village itself is a slice of Americana. The Brick Store, an old-fashioned Sundae Shop, and the historic Bath Covered Bridge are all within a short stroll. The Brick Store has been featured on NPR and other national media networks. The Brick Store has also been featured on “Chronicle”, a local production from WMUR-TV 9, Manchester, NH.
