Long considered a focal point for the arts in the Monadnock region of New Hampshire, the Colonial Theatre on Main Street in Keene first opened its doors in 1924. Throughout its history, Colonial Theatre has hosted live musical performances, vaudeville acts, theatrical productions, operas and several community events. Due to neglect and disrepair, the theater began to falter in the early 1990’s. Established as a non-profit organization, renovations began before the mid-1990’s, with the results being that this piece of Keene history was placed on the NH List of Historic Places in 2004. The Colonial Keene is great place to see a movie, live concert or theatrical performance. Share your Colonial Theater Keene reviews and comments. Review“I’ve only ever seen movies here, and that can be a mixed bag. The selection is usually quite good. The Colonial tends to get quality indie and foreign films, though the occasional Disney feature (they played The Secret World of Arriety) makes it’s way onto the screen sometimes. The theater itself is nice, but the sound just doesn’t work. Definitely go to check it out if you’re a film lover, especially if they’re showing a subtitled foreign film.” – Yelp Review

Review“The Colonial has something for everyone: old-time monster movies, foreign/art films, cartoons for the kids on Halloween, and a wide variety of live stage shows. They even stream opera live on-screen from the Met in NYC. The theater is lovely, but it’s the variety of the offerings that really sets this theater apart from the chain movie theaters. Check it out when you’re in the area. You may be amazed and delighted at what you find on the schedule.” – Trip Advisor Review
